A Vegetarian in Paris: My Favorite Stops

French cuisine has always held a special place in my heart, but nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand in Paris! When I first embarked on my journey across the globe, I was uncertain about what vegetarian options would be available. Surprisingly, Europe—especially Paris—has exceeded my expectations, offering a culinary experience that rivals anything back home. Here are some of my favorite spots for vegetarian meals in the City of Light!

A Perfect Parisian Picnic

My favorite meal in Paris was not at a fancy restaurant, but rather a simple picnic under the Eiffel Tower. Just a short five-minute walk away, I discovered Frédéric Sicard, a charming bakery and cake shop. I treated myself to a baguette filled with creamy Brie, a vegetarian delight that paired perfectly with a bottle of wine I picked up from a local Carrefour grocery store. Armed with my Brie baguette, wine, and a towel, I settled in for the perfect picnic beneath one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

As dusk approached, the Eiffel Tower began its famous light show, illuminating the sky every hour on the hour until 1 a.m. during the summer. The spectacle lasts only five minutes, but it’s worth every second. While locals do wander around selling wine at the Tower, I preferred to bring my own for that extra bit of comfort.

To relive my Emily in Paris moment, I had a second picnic, where I indulged in heart-shaped cheese and a fresh baguette from Carrefours. Nothing beats simple pleasures in a city as magical as Paris.

L’Escurial

I stumbled upon L’Escurial by chance, drawn in by its inviting patio. I ordered a veggie burger with fries, which, of course, I dipped in mayo, as is customary in Paris. My waiter was the highlight of the experience—he was full of energy and made the meal all the more enjoyable. When he came to clear my plate, he cheekily asked if I wanted dessert, coffee, or a “French kiss.” Though I didn’t snap a picture of the food, trust me—it was divine!

Bistrot du Métro

Before heading off to tour La Cinémathèque Française Musée Méliès, I stopped by a local bistro for lunch. The patio was adorable, the service was top-notch, and the food was fantastic. I opted for a Camembert sandwich with fries, and it did not disappoint!

Le Voltigeur

Nestled in my favorite neighborhood—the 4th arrondissement—on Rue des Francs Bourgeois, Le Voltigeur became a spot I couldn’t resist visiting twice. On my first visit, I enjoyed a croissant and coffee as I reenacted scenes from Me Before You. The next day, I returned for breakfast, savoring a quiche with salad and, of course, another coffee. The cozy ambiance and delightful food made this café a must-visit.

Crêpe at the Tuileries Garden

While in Paris, indulging in a crêpe is a must! One of my fondest memories is from a day spent reading in my favorite place in the world, the Tuileries Garden. While there, I stumbled upon the Fête Foraine du Jardin des Tuileries, a charming summer amusement park that pops up between early July and the last Sunday in August, right next to the Louvre. Among the delightful attractions, I found a vendor serving the most incredible crêpes—I couldn’t resist one topped with Nutella and fresh strawberries. It was pure bliss!

McDonald’s with a Parisian Twist

I can feel the judgment already, but hear me out! Like many others, I never imagined I’d be eating at McDonald’s in Paris—especially since I avoid it in the States. However, as a fan of Emily in Paris, I couldn’t resist visiting after seeing an episode featuring their beautifully displayed bakery items, including macarons. I had to know if McDonald’s in Paris truly lived up to the show’s portrayal. To my delight, it did!

The McDonald’s on the Champs-Élysées is unlike any fast-food joint back home. Spanning two stories with a chic patio out front, it offers an elevated experience. I was intrigued by their menu and couldn’t resist trying the McWRAP™ CHÈVRE—a delicious goat cheese wrap with lettuce, tomato, fried onions, and a delectable sauce. It was so good that I found myself wishing McDonald’s would add it to their U.S. menu. If they did, I might just become a regular!

Paris is a dream destination for anyone—vegetarian or not—and these experiences only scratch the surface of the delightful culinary adventures waiting in this beautiful city. Bon appétit!
